As with all works from this celebrated author, take a deep, deep breath and jump right into intrigue, danger, mystery and in this case, plots, within plots, within plots, which makes this murder mystery one of her best yet.
When Lane Harmon is involved with the redesign of the Bennett home, she is already aware that this job is going to be so very different. She does not realise just how very different, as from the minute she walks thought the door of the opulent home, she senses things are not as they appear to be, even though she is very used to working the rich and fabulously wealthy.
Parker Bennett has been missing for two years in very unusual circumstance, along with billions of dollars. Whether the two facts are linked seems probable but nothing has been able to be proven as to his disappearances and possible death and the missing money. It is a scandal which has not died down in the past two years and does not look like doing so, any time soon.
His wife is convinced he is still alive somewhere, his son Eric is moving on with his life, all the while convinced that his father is not guilty of the embezzlement charges, even though the money his father was managing has definitely gone.
But is Eric what he appears to be and why is Mrs Bennett so convinced Parker Bennett is still alive and well somewhere, and just simply not wanting to be found.
The Federal Government would like to have answers to the myriad of questions raised by Parker Bennett’s disappearance, as would his former clients and other interested parties. They all want to know where the money has gone!
The more involved Lane becomes with the family the more she becomes a part of the events which will place both her and her daughter in terrible danger.
As always, Clark’s undoubted skill at storytelling will have you on the edge of your chair and unable to put down the book until you have read the very last word!
