Guarding Eden- Champions of Climate Change

The short stories in this book are all about people who are intelligent, courageous and prepared to take enormous risks for our planet.  Be warned, there are things in here that will alarm you, and make you pause to consider.  The author feels that our Earth is precious. To this end these people have decided to raise awareness and by doing so try to educate people as to how we can save it.

In her introduction to the contents of the book the author includes a quote from Christine Lagarde who was head of the International Monetary fund. Christine said “Unless we take action on climate change, future generations will be roasted, toasted, fried and grilled”. Pretty forceful words! But the book is not all doom, it shows people who have thought carefully about what our planet will need, and many have begun to develop ideas and plans for the future.

The chapters cover the personal stories of various climate change activists. For instance, there is a community organiser, an entrepreneur, a nurse, a scientist and a vet each with their own way of pursuing and advertising this dilemma that we face.

The entrepreneur developed a Marathon with the name “Run for a safe Climate”. Chloe Aldenhoven and a friend climbed a coal chimney to drop information banners over the side. One message said, “$257 million to fund Asthma, lung disease, and extreme weather WTF.”

For each chapter in this book, there is a page explaining the specific details that are relevant to that chapter. The explanations are easy to read and shocking in their revelations.

It is heart-warming to know that there are so many people trying their hardest to bring the plight of our planet’s future to the attention of all. This is a wonderful example of the positive and educated way they are endeavouring to bring this message to the attention of all. We can only hope that world leaders can hear and recognise these facts before it is too late.
