Transformation

Take a classical instrument such as the flute and place it with a more modern instrument in acoustic guitar then sit back and expect the unexpected: in Transformation you’ve got it. Pure exquisiteness, if that’s a word, for the music that flows from these two performers only barely descibes the alchemy created.

In their words their music encourages you “to walk through the next door and change your life for the better”, after all, they did!

Their personal backgrounds could not have been more different: one a rodeo performer and cancer survivor, the other a classical musician, student and performer.

This diversity helps underpin the lovely, light timbre of the tracks as they work through a range of elements that lighten the heart and bring joy to the soul. Peace, deep thought, reflection, joy, healing and so much more waft threadlike through each track.

Suffering can sadly have its place in life and in Mahoney’s case has sharpened his love of life and living, accepting the challenges life tends to throw in the way which reflects in his music.

Finzer’s innate talent with the flute adds a certain surreal element and depth to each composition.  She eventually found her way from the classical genre into the more new age and improvisational style of playing which has added a deeper level to her music making.

The album commences with Alger St, resonates on Mahoney’s younger years and moves on from there: Confused is what happens when you are diagnosed with cancer, Reflections , written by Finzer is simply that; a reflection on memories of her life and children and so the album evolves.

The definitive piece The Door, is  symbolic of the  traditional saying of “when one door opens another one closes” , which represents an anthology of changes and life choices we all need to make from time to time.

In their words their music encourages you “to walk through the next door and change your life for the better”, after all, they did!
