Fiona Fagen has resurrected an art form that was prominent some thirty or more years ago with hand printing commonplace in the home and used to decorate just about everything from a lampshade to a table napkin. Sadly with the advent of the cheaper readily available home napery and goods flooding the market place, home crafting suffered a decline.

With her clear, simple and precise instruction you can have a great deal of fun making something original out of something up-cycled, as they say, from fabrics which will cost very little. There is a really intriguing project creating a bowl, or if you wish or series of bowls, out of recycled fabric – have a go and see what you can create. Guaranteed to be unique!

Fiona has used many objects found in and around the home to make her stencils, print blocks and trims, helping keep the cost down as well as creating some interesting design ideas. The edge of a wooden ruler gives a great set of lines when printed on linen or cotton, a set of cookie cutters makes for interesting shapes and designs when you add a little fabric paint.

Hand dying of fabric is a section of this craft style that can create some amazing effects with fabrics and dyes. It is seldom you have an idea of just what is coming out of the dye pot – once again unique to you.

The thirty projects are really just to get you going as, once you have discovered the huge amount fun to be had creating your own unique designs, you will be hooked. The fun will be endless.

There is no great element of skill required to set out on this learning curve, just a desire to create something a little bit different, have a lot of fun playing with very messy stuff, which, in the end will give you a terrific sense of accomplishment once your project is complete.

When your friends and family ask you where you bought it from you will truly be able to say ‘Crafted by Me’.
