Helen Razer is no stranger to book writing, with this the fifth humorous, non-fiction book she has written, in which she shares her thoughts on the “Impotence of current debate.” There are certainly many opportunities to chuckle, if not laugh outright as you read this book.
The author looks at the philosophy of Karl Marx, and explains why he thought the world was in such a mess. The explanations and the language used are for the young, but also very helpful if your own knowledge is skimpy on this subject, and you are trying to understand the thoughts that are presented.
The first chapter in the book is titled, “KARL MARX IS A SUPER COOL BRO AND TOTALLY RELEVANT FOR TODAY’S CELLPHONE CRAZY YOUNGSTER.” Her introduction to Marx is certainly aimed at the young, and further information such as he got his cleaning lady “Up the duff” attracts attention straight away. The author points out that the future is quite bleak for the young ones today, and with rising unemployment, and unaffordable housing things are not going to get better quickly.
Helen’s topics are varied and soundly explained. She ranges from the tragedy that is Detroit (USA) to feminism, and explains basically how the Marxist philosophy views this. Donald Trump and his policies are soundly explored and criticized, while Bernie Sanders thoughts are examined. “Capitalism is going to end,” because there just isn’t enough work for all and the wealthy who replace human labor with machines, and whom will find their business will decline in the long run.
Although this is an easy and witty book to read, the author is very strong in her beliefs and her way of getting her message across to young people. Looking for Helen Razer’s credentials we find that she attended a college. This is not to say that she has not studied and read widely, nor have depth of knowledge to get her voice heard. However, the humour and simple style in which she has written this book will ensure thought provoking reading, and honest soul searching for those who dare.
