Dog Lovers be warned. What you thought you knew about your dog is about to be challenged in this thought provoking look at what really goes on inside your dog’s mind. It’s probably, almost definitely, not what you though at all!

Written by Horowitz as part of a scientific study of dogs, she used her own pet Pumpernickel (Pump for short) as a study subject and discovered dogs really are very complex creatures, with specific , inbred ways of going about their everyday lives.

They have a social perspective that is part breeding and part learned behaviour, they have set and specific rules of play with other dogs, they have their owner completely sorted out and generally have worked out how to get what they want when they want it.

Of course there are always exceptions to the rule but most dogs really are the highly evolved creatures we take them to be. Therefore, on that basis perhaps all dog owners should take a second look at just exactly were their pet is coming from when he wags his tail and looks them straight in the eye!

After reading this very detailed look at the cognitive behaviour of your beloved dog you may have some small chance of finally, maybe, possibly understanding the place your dog is coming from when he decides he really does not want to go out in the rain, rain coat or not, and would really rather stay in in front of the fire eating that special treat of ice cream!!!!!!!!

Enjoy this journey into the psyche or “umwelt” of your dog and see where it leads you!
