Everybody has experienced the GREEN-EYED MONSTER. It is a part of human nature that at times we feel jealous or envious. The Golden Rule is to acknowledge that monster and not let it direct your life and feelings. Milo’s Monster cleverly shows how a child, after a time, realises that he is missing out on so much happiness by letting the monster govern his thoughts.

Milo has lived next door to Jay and played with him every day. Then a new family move next door; the girl is great fun and has lots of toys. One day, Milo comes out and sees his friend Jay playing with the new girl. This is when Milo meets his monster for the first time. The monster guides his thinking by suggesting the two playmates are laughing at him. So many negative thoughts are passed on by the monster.

Eventually Milo is able to dismiss the monster and restore peace which is not an easy thing to do, and he often needs some guidance and help. This book is a great catalyst for children to be able to discuss feelings and express themselves. They can look at solutions that match their problem.

Milo’s Monster is a soft backed picture book with bright effective illustrations. It is part of a series called “BIG BRIGHT FEELINGS”, which again leads to discussions and problems solving strategies. The text is interspersed with drawings which show the depth of feelings that Milo has. In a light-hearted way children can enjoy a story, but have time to reflect on their own issues.
