The title of the book The Psychoanalysis of Dr Seele reveals the essence of the story but there are many hidden layers and many surprises in the reading. The main character is a narcissist whom the reader may dislike but also feel a degree of sympathy towards.  The author is trying to show us that many people think that wealth and fame will bring them ultimate happiness and satisfaction, but the truth is far riskier than that.

Dr Seele is a kidney transplant surgeon. He is known throughout the world for his brilliant technical procedures, and he lectures around the world on latest practices. He is a physically imposing man who works out at the gym and his large physique adds to his aura. When confronted by a criminal, who is passionate and aggressive, the doctor begins to have some doubts. He feels a “space” inside that he had never experienced before.

An issue occurs in the hospital which reflects badly on the doctor. Suddenly all those people who had seemed to be his supporters were avoiding eye contact. His preferential treatment everywhere was no longer evident; he was paralysed by fear and the dreams he was having. A friend suggested he see a psychoanalyst, and in a moment of desperation the doctor agreed. The analyst he saw was old, experienced, and realised that Enoch would need to be honest and open to receive help.

Gradually many issues, relating to the hospital and his private life, begin to come together to threaten his life and livelihood. Before Dr Seele can begin on a healing and honest understanding of himself, he must face up to truths, recognising the imbalance of his life and understanding.
