If you are feeling a little jaded, battered by life and in need of repair, the place to go is the Highland Repair Shop in the lovely , slightly remote town of Cairn Dhu in the Scottish Highlands, just as the month of April is ending and celebrations are afoot for Beltane or Walpurgisnacht or Saint Walpurga’s night, depending on how you consider these things deeply mystical.
Young Euan Sparks has returned to town, a newly minted Electrician, to help care for his granddad Clyde Forte, but finds himself in trouble with this first contract as an electrician, something he fears he will never live down in this small town.
Peaches McDowell is working long hours finishing off her collection of garments made from recycled material. Her friend and model for the catwalk section of her Master’s Degree has fallen ill leaving her in a terrible fix. She has a preview of the garments that night, when in walks Euan to the Highland Repair Shop, who she considers is the answer to her problem.
One look at Peaches sees Euan captivated, and vice versa but Peaches mother Carenza thinks otherwise, as she has plans already in place for the Beltane celebration which don’t include Euan.
But all is not well in the McIntyre home as Roz is facing empty nest syndrome, McIntyre is behaving in a decidedly strange manner and to Roz, nothing in her world is right. It is their wedding anniversary coming up and with McIntyre behaving as if he may be having an affair, she is devastated.
As the days race past to the end of the month a freak storm almost derails Peaches catwalk plans, Euan comes to the rescue and well without saying too much more Peaches decides she simply must talk with her mother about her obsessive behavior, as she is twenty three years old and needs to be able to make her own decisions.
As you are enfolded carefully and lovingly into the world of Cairn Dhu you become involved in the life of the town as everyone, including the dour Gifford sisters, is out to make sure this Walpurgisnacht is the best, despite Carenza’s efforts to make it a tame and mild affair over by 9pm.
Making Sparks Fly at the Highland Repair Shop is a stand-alone story but also part of the delightful, enchanting and somewhat mystical Highland Repair Shop series which is woven together with charm and naturally, magic, which delivers the perfect antidote when you need a little pickup and a huge, warm, hug courtesy of Kiley Dunbar.
