Sarah Hawthorn will not disappoint readers with High Land her recent page-turning book with its absorbing plot. No-one is quite who they seem and there is an abundance of twists and turns with a final shock in the concluding chapter, which will keep mystery lovers in suspense. Nothing is as clear as it seems.

Waking up in hospital with no memory of who she is, or of miraculously having survived a horrendous sky diving accident in which her boyfriend instructor had tragically died while attempting to save her, she is left critically injured.

Gradually Annie starts to piece her life and the accident together, as fragments of her memory slowly begin to return. However, nothing makes sense, causing her to start doubting everything she thought she knew about her life; -why does she feel as if she is in danger?

In order to uncover the truth and get answers to her many questions about her early life, she travels across the world. Who can Annie trust enough to be able to confide in them? How does Maya, who turned up at Annie’s mother’s funeral fit in? Why has her father’s body been found in Budapest and why has he left a substantial amount of money to an unknown couple in Scotland?

Early in the book the author cleverly creates tension, mystery and intrigue by introducing characters who appear to have no connection to either the plot or the narrator Annie; thus, keeping the reader guessing and engaged.

I highly recommend this unpredictable twisty thriller, which keeps the reader guessing until the last page.
