Back in 1977 there was no CSI, there was Quincy M.E.

And the strong-willed Los Angeles County medical examiner played by the inimitable, Jack Klugman has finally arrived on DVD.

Season three has been released and what a season it is.

Episode one kicks off with the classic episode, No Deadly Secret. Quincy performs an autopsy and the body disappears the next morning without a trace. He goes onto question more suspicious deaths in a further 21 episodes for the season. Other standouts include; Tissue of Truth, Last of the Dinosaurs, Ashes to Ashes and Gone but not Forgotten.

But it is episode seven, Holding Pattern that reminds us how much times have changed since this series first aired. A group of terrorists take hostage of a plane and well need I go on.

Loosely based on the infamous Los Angeles coroner Thomas Noguchi, this “one man CSI” is supported by a who’s who lineup of guest stars from Dabney Coleman (Boardwalk Empire) to heavyweight boxing champion, Joe Louis.

Quincy M.E. is a good balance between drama, mystery, and medicine and there is a welcome feeling of yesteryear.

Not surprisingly it ran for eight seasons and this 5-disc set contains every episode from the third season and includes an image gallery.

Seasons 3-5 are available to buy.

Welcome back Quincy we’ve missed you!
