Archie’s Holiday is a visual feast and is great as you can enrich or streamline your story telling each and every time as there is not a great deal of reading but more exploring and interpreting the wonderful and often humorous and expressive illustrations. Essentially Archie is packing for his holiday and over thinks the entire event.

Every night he lays down to sleep and thinks of yet more things to pack or various scenarios that could go wrong on his holiday. The upshot being a very tricky task in trying to fit everything in the suitcase. He does  manage it for a few moments before BANG. The fold out pages convey the explosion of clothes and personal items beautifully and made my kids laugh again and again.

We in fact took this on our recent holiday so it was very timely and resonates extremely well with my kids 4 and a bit and 1 ½ with requests to reread it from the 4 year old. With so many items to seek out and discover on most pages and the opportunity to try and explain dreams there are great discussions to be had. Despite all of Archie concerns they make it to their holiday destination and really only need their swimmers!
