For those who love all things to do with princesses, and fairy tales, this story will be much loved. When you think about it a princess has many tasks to perform such as waving. Practising that and other royal things such as sitting on a throne for hours and smiling all the time can be very tiring. The little girl in this story wants to be a princess but always seems to have grubby knees and socks falling down.

Young princesses must try out their hand shaking and smiling. It would be terrible if they stuck out a tongue or made a face. And of course there would be, “No burping or farting,” just beautiful smells around the royal girl. Table manners must be practised as well and all greens would need to be eaten. There are just so many things to learn and remember. No scabby knees and climbing trees are not to be thought of.

Our lively young heroine looks like she might have second thoughts about being a princess, especially when Mum and Dad tell her they love their real girl, and think she is just perfect. In fact she is their Super star, and they couldn’t be more proud of her.

The story is fast flowing and moves along with a lovely rhythm.  The words rhyme and create a splendid text for the many clever little illustrations. Looking at the illustrations closely we can see Sleeping Beauty, Rapunzel and Cinderella, along with dragons, witches spinning wheels and knights on horseback. There is so much to view here that each double page spread takes time to scrutinize.

The text is a good size font, with emphasised words enlarged. The illustrations are delightful and fill every page with colourful characters and their entourage. The ending is almost convincing and yet….. being a princess for a little while I’m sure would be fun.
