Colin Thiele (1920-2006) is perhaps one of the most profound writers of children’s books to have graced the Australian Book Industry. Leading the way in children literature his works are as fresh and captivating today as they were when first penned.

In this collection, suitable for all ages and reading levels, we meet again some of his most loved works in Storm Boy, known and loved by children of several generations, Pinquo, the penguin who saved the day for the town of Sickle Bay and Albatross Two covering the opccurance of an oil slick off the coastal town of Ripple Bay and the effect it has on the town. Magpie Island is a short story of life, living and accepting things don’t always come out the way you hope they will.

Born in 1920, serving in the WW II, Thiele wrote about the country he grew up in and loved. He used everyday life as his subject and carved out many, many stories based on Australian life to entertain and present some of the many challenges faced in an ever changing world.

A number of his stories, Storm Boy, Sun on the Stubble, Blue Fin and Fire in the Stone, have been made into film and are much loved by audiences everywhere.

Loved by one and all his legacy in children’s literature will long endure.
