What could instantly capture a young person’s imagination if not Four Silly Skeletons. The delightful cover on this book shows these bony characters in joyful acrobatics with a suitably black background. The end pages are also delightfully pattered with bones, banana peels and mice skeletons.

We meet the four characters who are given names, and by turning the book sideways we see that they live at the top of a hill while their “Sweet Aunty June,” lives at the bottom.

It seems the skeletons are clumsy (not surprising) and Aunty is often called in to clean up their mess. The skeletons get into tremendous trouble one dark night when they all were dancing down the hill to music. As usual Aunty June comes to the rescue, but perhaps she didn’t quite get things right this time.

This is definitely not a bedtime story. It is full of fun and movement. To read some of the pages the book must be turned, and much of the writing winds around the page. The illustrations are clear and bold with many double page spread, black backgrounds.

There is music and laughter and movement on most pages. The text is a good size and in bright colours making it easy to follow. Four Silly Skeletons is a great book for involving young readers.
