Odd Facts about Fascinating Fish

Fish live in the oceans and rivers of the world and just like every other species, they have their quirks, their individuality if you like, that makes them more than just a tasty treat, and it makes them fascinating creatures that live together in a rather watery world that is an extremely important component of our world.

Whoever through fish could be funky! Debra Kempf Shumaker and Claire Powell do because they have created Freaky, Funky Fish a collection of page after page after page of outrageous antics, fish and more fish, detailing things you maybe never wanted to know about fish, but now you do which is all fascinating.

As we all know fish have gills and fins, which allow them to breathe and move underwater; most of them have scales but not all. Sharks for instance have a leathery, abrasive skin and others are smooth and slimy, some have hidden means to protect themselves like the electric eel and the stonefish, which is deadly if stepped upon.

It is not well known though that some fish sing: can you imagine a fish choir, which is vastly different to a fish supper! Look out for those fish that have their own lights that blink and others that delight in being different by climbing out of the mud because they can and other reasons as well!

Page after page of information is delivered in a fun filled manner, with each of the sections achieving a freak rating which adds to the fun. Each of the double page spreads is filled to the brim with cartoon type illustrations which make you laugh, although I am not too sure the fish would appreciate their likeness should they be asked, or their listing on the freaky metre.

Fascinating and informative Freaky, Funky Fish is a terrific resource for schools or a gift for children who love exploring different worlds. An excellent glossary at the rear provides more detailed information about the stars of the pages which rounds out a well-considered book which will provide hours of fun and information for a wide range of readers and inquisitive minds.
