The Boy Who Lost His Laugh is a sad story of a little boy who had a dinosaur collection and a few other possessions which he was afraid to unpack. You see he had been moved from foster home to foster home and so unpacking his precious things meant he was at risk of losing some.

At last Tim found a home with the Lee family. Tim enjoyed the big sister fussing over him and the “ridonculous racket the twins made in the morning.” He loved the way that his foster Mum kissed him goodnight each night in the middle of his freckles. Sadly, the boy knew this could not last and he could not summon up a laugh.

One day his Social Worker came to visit, and Tim peeled his posters off the wall and packed his things ready for the next move. The family waited outside for the final verdict to be given, and Tim felt his life was on hold. Maybe, just maybe, something good was about to happen and Tim could find his laugh again.

The illustrations in this book are light and clear and add to the story. They depict all too clearly a very sad boy in a sad situation. Hopefully most children will not be able to relate to this.
