Kind is a realistically illustrated hard back picture book and is just what we all need. It is guaranteed to bring a gentleness to the reader and the listener. The softly patterned front pages prepare us for the message to come. The first page explains that ‘Kind is more than a type, Kind is how to care.”

The first colourful double page spread shows a variety of butterflies all colours, shapes, and sizes. The short rhyming texts suggests that even beautiful butterflies were once crawly things. Each butterfly is different showing many species. The next double page spread explains why we should be kind to those who weave, and a range of spiders is drawn. The double page spreads continue with scaly things, things with fins and things with shells.

Many of the animals, insects, and birds shown here are all given their proper names. Then we are shown an illustration of the planets. The text reiterates that we need to be kind to where we live, it is the only home we have. We are also reminded to be kind to others and save a little kindness for ourselves.

The message is delightful; simple and charming. Children will be able to choose favourite animals and explore the wonderful and precise illustrations. This is an end of the day book which will ensure a smile and a breath after reading.
