Toby is sports mad and nothing but sport is the topic of conversation except that of the McGarvey, who not only is the biggest kid in the school but wears a shark tooth from the shark that tried to eat him, and who is also he school bully who somehow just always seems to pick on Toby.
Toby hates school, hates his teacher Mrs Martin-Edge who seems to know everything that’s going to happen before it happens and seems to really, really hate “that boy Toby Gilligan –Flannigan”.
Toby and his two life-long mates Hughesy and Jonesy belong to the local cricket club and the school cricket team and between them consider life is good so long as it’s on the sport field. Unfortunately for Toby, McGarvey also belongs to the team and he sets out to make sure Toby always looks like he can’t do a thing right on the cricket pitch.
Toby’s dad has set him a Gamebox V 3 challenge for the summer provided he lifts his game, stops telling fibs and getting into trouble but it seems that whatever Toby manages to do to gain points for the GameBox, McGarvey seems to be able to undo, enticing Toby into trouble and more trouble.
The real fun starts when the Cricket season ends and Rugby begins with the four boys on the same team once again.
In the same genre as “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” Shoot, Boom, Score will become a fast favourite with boys as it totally relates to all the issues they have to deal with like Big Sisters, grumpy Teachers, Parents, coaches and the person who always can save the day Grandmothers.
