The Amazing Theatre of Physics is an educational and entertaining group who travel around the world to show children how much fun physics can be. They have written The Awesome Physics in your City as an educational tool. The large picture book begins by showing an outline of a town. Each area, from a construction site to the shops, and the playground are numbered. As you move through the pages, each section is dealt with individually.
The Street is the first section we look at. The illustration shows a road with a tram, cars and workmen. Underground sections of the road are examined, and the rainbow on the road from spilled oil is discussed. Safety on the road, speed and mirrors are also pictured and detailed.
On the construction site the concept of push and pull, using a crank and cogwheels are demonstrated.
So many interesting details are given that going to a restaurant will never be the same. Drinking through a straw, bubbles in drinks and hot and cold liquids are mentioned and explained. At the Doctor’s, in the pool, and in the shop, items are isolated and explained.
There is a Glossary in the back of this informative book. Terms such as electricity, buoyancy, flow, forces, light, and radiation are explained. Because of the Picture Book format the subject is easily accessible to young children and accompanied by many illustrations.
