Life has certainly changed over the last few years, with total lockdowns, loss of employment, home schooling and visiting restrictions to name but a few; so it’s not surprising that there are many more children feeling anxious and worried than ever before. Tammi Kirkness, life coach and wellness expert has used the experience and information, which she has gathered from working with children to compile her book “The Panic Button for kids.”  No doubt this child friendly step-by-step guide will help bolster the confidence, groundedness and self-respect of the next generation.

Her beautifully presented hard covered book is divided into four sections; How Do I feel?, Feeling My Feelings, Figuring Out Where the Worry Started and Checking in Again. The pastel colours and simple instructions will not only sooth, but provide the readers with a way to start to lift her/his burden of anxiety and self-doubt.

After ascertaining what the reader is feeling and the intensity of that feeling, the reader can then turn to the page where this sensation is analysed by a ‘decision tree’.  The relevant pages will suggest a possible remedy to neutralise the feeling. The trees are written in everyday language and provide simple but generally effective healing; deep breathing to breathe out the worrisome feeling is often suggested.

By including a ‘Note to Parents and Caregivers’ and ‘Note to Parents’, this book provides not only valuable information and support to the child, but also the adult. It is a handy resource for childcare workers, teachers, psychologists and in fact anyone who works for, or cares about children. It will prove to be very beneficial to everyone who values investment in the children of the world.
