An Illustrated Guide to the Bird World

Colourful and hugely informative, this picture book What Makes A Bird, contains information about birds in simple language. To begin with, we explore a bird’s body, how it can fly and how it can sing. We look at eyes, beaks, bills and feathers.

The following pages deal with where birds live. The authors explore all the habitats where birds are found. Then we discover what birds do. How they kill, their journeys and nesting habits and how they navigate. The concluding chapter gives tips on how to become a Birder, where to start, how to identify a bird, and how to make a bird log.

Each double page spread in this book is filled with magnificently coloured pictures of individual birds. There are facts given such as “50% of birds migrate” and “Bar headed geese can reach heights of 8 kilometres above sea level.”

Nadeem Perera is an activist and presenter and has produced a wonderful work of art as well as a fact filled book.
