On each page of this children’s book is an exploration and explanation of a fact in our world. Some are natural and some man- made. The idea for the book is to stimulate thinking about ourselves and our surrounds. Every child should find a fact of interest to them.

The human body, heroes, computers, animals and buildings are a few of the areas covered. Several of the WOW facts are posed as questions to reflect on, and then the answers are given. Each page has an illustration to clarify or elaborate a fact, and different coloured inks are used to emphasise a fact, or show a difficult word.

Looking back in time, we see computers were invented in the 1940’s and were the size of a modern fridge that reached from ceiling to floor. Quite a contrast to today’s ever decreasing sizes of computers. There is an activity for children to try. The letters on a keyboard were originally arranged so that the most commonly used letters were placed on opposite sides of the keyboard to prevent jamming the typewriter keys. Today, this is not an issue with computer keyboards, and children are invited to design their own keyboard.

Competent readers will be able to read this book, although its set- out appears to be for younger readers. Boys in particular will enjoy the factual content of this book.
