39 Plus One is a very real, funny and fascinating look at people, life and turning that magic number of forty years old, whether you want to or not, which is made even more relevant when you are still single and have made the decision to try and find Mr Almost Right by that magic number, as did Rachel Collins

As a part of the Introduction Ragh Bir states this a true-life experience with names, characters and businesses changed to protect the privacy of those who have been part of her journey seeking the man with which to share the rest of her life; with a little poetic license added here and there.

Rachel has it all, a great job, a lovely apartment, a good social life and terrific friends, but she does not have a significant other in her life. Well she had, but when he turned out to be less than desirable, she elected not to rush into another relationship in a hurry, but to lead the single life. That was until she realised that as she was soon to be forty she really did need to try and find someone who would be part of her life ongoing.

Setting herself a quest she made the vow to go out with any man who asked her, to get over her list of attributes the ‘perfect mate’ should have and see what turned up, or who, over the course of one year.

With her two long time best friends as mentors and a very extroverted gay couple, also long-time friends, a light touch to her many disastrous dates is added. Along with load of courage and determination she follows through with her quest, only to discover there are far more toads that need to be kissed and even then, Mr Right was proving to be very illusive.

Written in a very light hearted manner Rachal takes us all on a journey which is so very easy to relate to, as she searches high and often low, for the man to wake up with every morning, thinking on several occasions she has found him, only to be bitterly disappointed.

In the middle of what is turning out to be a disastrous holiday to Ibiza, she finds herself sitting on a beach, alone, in a contemplative mood and realises that along the way she has learned a lot more about herself; maybe she has been as much on journey of self-discovery, as a search for the right mate.

But perhaps is all is not lost as fate, or the universe, has one last offering in store!

Funny, witty, poignant and charming Ragh Bir throws the doors of the dating game wide open, as Rachel cuts a swath through all the many men who are also looking for the perfect woman, or any woman to share their lives.

39 Plus One: a definite page turner.
