Bleeding Heart Yard

In ‘Bleeding Heart Yard’, the third in the Harbinder Singh series by Elly Griffith, she developed from being a slightly awkward regional police woman, to being promoted to Detective Inspector in the Criminal Investigation Department of the Metropolitan Police (Homicide and serious Crime Unit) in West Kensington.  On her team is DS Cassie Fitzgerald, who has a big secret, which not only impacts on Cassie but ultimately also on the success of DI Singh’s first murder investigation.

Attendance at the twenty first anniversary reunion of Manor Park School, an exclusive Chelsea State School, included many high-profile graduates; two MPs, an award-winning actress, a famous pop star, a promising writer, head teacher of Manor Park and Cassie, a member of DI Singh’s team; while at school they were part of ‘The Group’.

Within a few days of being in her new role, Harbinder is assigned the case of Garfield Rice, a conservative member of Parliament and member of ‘The Group’, who was found dead during the class reunion. His body was discovered in the men’s room, with visible signs of cocaine.

Was it an overdose or murder? Cassie suspects that there is a link to a past ‘accidental’ death. Having Cassie at the centre of the investigation could make things very difficult for Harbinder as the newcomer to the team.

Then three days later another member of ‘The Group’ is murdered. What is the significance of the ‘Bleeding Heart Yard’?

Readers of the first two Harbinder Singh books will find this an even more entertaining crime read, with not only its intrigue and surprising twists but also its touch of romance. Although the author has scattered clues along the way, many readers will enjoy the unexpected ending.
