Set at the end of the Tony Blair era of government in England, 2003 in the South London area of Catford, an area well known for shady and criminal undertakings, we met the charming Miles Askew, a man who passes his time working as a PI for a very small local investigative firm.

Greyhound racing is central to the story; a world where corruption and ruthless behaviour is the norm, but when some serious race fixing, along with a death, takes place his firm is called into discover who is behind it and why.

But what is really going on is rather more than one man and a few determined bystanders could ever have imagined, as the abuse of power and privilege, ruthlessness for land grabbing, power and money takes precedence over human life.

Fast paced and entertaining, with a raft of relatable characters Catford Dogs captures the seedy side of London with clarity. The frequent shifting time frames is somewhat confusing but does not detract from the essence of the storyline.

Andy Burn draws the all too real tale of greed and corruption to a cataclysmic, but very South London, close in the most unexpected style.
