Lauren has moved on in the world. She dreamed of becoming a writer but changed direction becoming a teacher, finding the change of direction infinitely satisfying. When April Reidman’s parents come into to discuss April’s constant truanting, she is stunned to discover the love of her life, Jamie Sultana is April’s father. As the term moves along April is often causing issues, Lauren is struggling to cope with her past ‘school crush’ on Jamie and when he volunteers to be member of the Parents Committee, Lauren is completely flummoxed. She realises she still has issues with Jamie and why he broke up with her. As he is a parent of one of the students, she must be careful how she behaves while he is around.

As Lauren’s story unfolds the layers of protection she has placed around her heart are revealed as she learns to trust and accept that there are no certainties in life; that sometimes all it takes is courage to face the hurt and face the future with hope.
