Kick Lannigan has got history: History she has worked hard at placing behind her. It doesn’t always work as she has a face that is well known to the press and the porn industry and a mother who has dedicated her life to supporting other parents of kidnap victims.
Kidnapped in plain view Kick spent six years living a life that was totally false, hiding from other people and learning far, far more about life on the wrong side of the law than she ever should have known.
Rescued in a police sting when she was twelve she spent many years learning how to relive her life, fight, courtesy of martial arts and become a crack shot with a hand gun. When two small children are abducted in the same month in the Portland region the powers that be in the shape of Bishop, an serious, mysterious, deadly hunk, come looking for her, requesting she use her particular talents and background to help them find the missing children.
Reluctantly she agrees to help, but on what she thinks are her own terms, not Bishops: it’s not until she and Bishop both hit rock bottom, her ‘brother’ James is dragged into the mess and her beloved dog Monster is killed that she really begins to call on her past to help find these two children.
Tough, heroic and fearless she calls on her and James’s dark past, and with Bishops help, his seemingly endless resources namely expensive cars, money and helicopters to name just a few items, set out to right an few wrongs and find the people who are still working the underground porn trade.
Fast paced, cut throat, riveting and full of twists and turns the plot is sometimes hard to keep up with but as a crime thriller it does not leave any stone unturned in an attempt to find the people behind the evil. Intrigue is added in the form of Bishop, who closely resembles one of the characters better known in the Sue Grafton novels, handsome, tough, dark and mysterious and obviously loaded in all respects.
Captivating from the first to last this is one story that will remain with you long after the last page is turned. Speaking of the last page, it would seem there is the opportunity for Kick and Bishop along with James to team up again. We will just have to wait and see exactly what comes next as Kick and James are left to recover in luxurious surroundings, courtesy of Bishop!
