There are murders aplenty in the latest Midsomer Murders boxset, Season 15 Part 1.
Disc one kicks off with The Dark Rider a torrid tale featuring the DeQuetteville family where upon a member of this esteemed family falls to his death after seeing a headless horseman.
What follows is a civil war and a number of DeQuetteville deaths before a genuinely surprising ending that makes this the strongest installment in this series.
Disc two features Murder of Innocence and Death and the Divas.
Murder of Innocence is the story of Grady Felton, a convicted murderer who returns to Midsomer after serving a lengthy jail sentence. But the town’s folk are less than happy to see him and soon his shack is engulfed in flames and Grady is fighting for his life. There is a sense that Grady may not have committed the murder all those years ago and if he didn’t do it, who did?
The boxset concludes with Death and the Divas, a story of two sisters and a 1960s horror movie. When the long lost sister of Stella Harris returns to Midsomer a series of gruesome murders begin that resemble the movie she starred in. There are also guest appearances from former Hammer stars John Carson and Caroline Munro.
Neil Dudgeon aka D.C.I. John Barnaby continues to shine in his new role that offers a fresh dimension to the long standing series. D.S. Jones plays a stronger role compared to previous outings with a love interest and a window into his early days as a police constable.
Extra features include textless sequences and a special audio commentary from Barnaby himself, Neil Dudgeon.
Midsomer Murders never fails to satisfy, I can’t imagine a world without it, lets hope that never happens!
