Frostmelt or the thaw, is that time of year when the going within of the long months of winter are slowly coming to a close; the first signs of Spring beginning to peek out of the snow covered countryside.
Pianist Greg Maroney and flautist Sherry Finzer are joined by Suzanne Lansford on violin to create a delicate and immensely enjoyable tribute to this time of gentle change in the elegant work Frostmelt.
Prior to the album release in January a single, Alabaster Fields was released, which captures that perfect moment in time, that singular instance when the seasons begin to change. In a collection of outstanding compositions, Alabaster Fields is perfection and considered as a definite award winner.
Dusty Swirls of White, captures the beauty of those joyous swirls of snow dancing across snow covered fields as the wind picks up the snowflakes, hurling them into in a joyful moment of pure abandonment.
Frostmelt is a gently, reflective and mediative song that allows the mind to drift, to enjoy a moment of luxurious dreaming; of pure white snow, the gentle trickle of water as the melt begins, the quite beauty that covers the landscape.
Drifting through the melodies, the lovely Evening Glow wraps a layer of warmth around the soul as the measured, yet relaxing song unfolds as the majesty of day settling into night is revealed.
The sombre Silver Thaw draws an album made for dreaming to a close, as the measured tones of the piano are softened with the graceful notes of the flute.
Frostmelt touches the heart with grace, reaching out in these shattered times to offer balm for the troubled soul and is a most carefully crafted work which is in its structured simplicity, a benchmark for the year ahead.
