A catchy, up-tempo and delightful song, Hinamatsuri has been created by Japanese-Canadian flautist Ron Korb which catches the sentiment of the Hinamatsuri Festival held annually in Japan.

The Shinto Festival, known as the Festival of Doll’s, dates back to the Edo Era (1603-1876) in Japan, when the dolls were used to ward off evil spirits. In modern days the Doll Festival is used to pray and give thanks for the lives of girls and their continued prosperity.

This dancing, lively melody captures the spirit of the celebration, where many families bring out treasured dolls, handed down over the generations, no longer to ward off evil spirits, although that could still be a small component, but as a continuation of a centauries old tradition.

Korb plays both the Japanese shinobue bamboo flute and flute. He is accompanied by Ray Hickey Jr. koto, shamisen and acoustic guitar, Chris Gartner – bass, Larry Crowe – percussion.
