Jim Ottaway is an Australian musician who has been creating e-music since 2004 but remains little known on the world stage that is until recently when he won two awards at the prestigious Zone Music Reporter Awards held in New Orleans in May.

Up against some of the best and well known relaxation, new age musicians such as Steve Roach, Forest Smithson, Michael Whalen and in the Ambient section Jeff Pearce and David Helpling, Ottway took out Best Electronic Album category, his Timeless E-Motion and Best Ambient Album Category, his album Deep Space Blue.

Based in Queensland Ottaway has created produced 27 albums since 2004 covering the genres of space ambient, electronic, rock, dance, new age and music for film and television with the influences in his music based on Vangelis, Tangerine Dream and Enigma.

Over the years a number of his albums have been nominated for awards and have ‘Southern Cross’ was awarded a Silver Medal at the 2016 Global Music Awards in the USA. In 2017 both ‘Southern Cross’ and ‘Invisible Vortex’ received nominations in the Zone Music Reporter Awards (USA) and One World Music Radio Awards (UK) for music released in 2016.

Since 2010 sixteen of Jim’s tracks have been chosen as finalist in various Australian music/songwriting awards including ‘The Long Haul’ and ‘Out of the Darkness (Instrumental)’ which were awarded 5th place and 7th place respectively in the Instrumental Category of the 2015 Australian Songwriting Awards (ASA); ‘Live the Dream’ which was awarded 4th place in the Instrumental Category of the 2014 ASA and ‘Sojourn’ and ‘Oh Baby… Yeah!’ Top 4 finalists in the Electronic/Dance category of the 2010 Q Song Awards and the 2011 Queensland Music Awards.
