“Hold fast to dreams, for if dreams die, Life is a broken-winged bird that cannot fly.”
(Langston Hughes)

This beautiful verse from Langston Hughes makes the perfect introduction for the latest work from Italian composer Fallen, Our Dreams Will Be Told, as he takes time to reflect on the dreams we all have as we travel through life.

Dreams are a very personal state of being, whether they are sent to us in dream state, or we conjure them up when we are awake, wanting, desiring something so much we dream of this being ours, of happening or somehow materialising in our lives.

But what happens when dreams turn to ashes, dust or simply vanish into the mists of time, to be replaced with something else? This is a time of wonderment that can lead to disillusionment and pain. But if dreams are realised what a wondrous thing that can be.

The eight tracks blend seamlessly in to one as the journey begins with the gentle melodies enticing a place of reflection, of mellow moods and tranquillity; of dreaming of things to be and once where. The soft Let there be more light is a subtle piece that encapsulates the very essence of dreaming; a gentle wafting of thought and ideas still to be formed.

Dove’s Secret Shelter is somewhat intriguing piece as it moves across the boundaries of electronica in a subtle manner, captivating the world of these beautiful, peaceful birds as they sit safely in their shelter, safe from the worries of the world.

Changing the pace to a more up-tempo feeling is Stolen Empathy, Bitter Tears reflecting on dreams gone wrong, sour, leaving behind an aftermath of unpleasant feelings and thoughts. A darker, far more brooding piece which captures the disillusionment well.

As Our Dreams Will Be Told draws to a conclusion a dreamy state being has been induced by the gentle music, the hint of dreams told and yet to be found, of peace, sorrow, joy and comfort. Delightful and relaxing this album shows a gentle aspect of Fallen’s composition skills, as on this work, he enchants, entices and then blends in a form of acceptance to the very nebulous world of dreams.
