In 2011, Andrew opened a restaurant called “The Dip.” The recipes in this book are based on comfort food, and satisfying dishes that he serves.  If you are looking for trendy, nouveau cuisine, or vegetarian health foods, you need to stop here.  This is a recipe book of warming, comforting, tasty hotdogs, hamburgers and amazing flavours.

The chapters are headed: fried stuff, slow cooked stuff, burgers and sandwiches, hotdogs and sauces, salsas, salads and sides.  There is also a chapter on sweet stuff, which contains dishes such as deep-fried cupcakes, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and hot chocolate fudge.

The book begins by listing the ten things that you need to get started, the first being another person!  All the recipes are accompanied by photographs, giving visual clues as to what the dish should look like, how to serve it, and what sauce should accompany it.

Each recipe also gives a time frame, “start this recipe 15 minutes before you want to eat it.” The ingredients are listed clearly and all are readily available.  Preparation and cooking instructions are simply written and easy to follow.

If the men in your family wish to take over the Barbie or kitchen for the evening, this book is the perfect chef’s assistant.  With the always popular hamburgers, hotdogs and nachos, as well as instructions on how to make your own sauces, this is a no-fail cookbook.

There are some unusual ways of cooking.  For example, prawns are cooked in black tea, and Cola is featured in basting.  At the back, there is an index to help locate any dish quickly. The recipes are great fun to read and would encourage aspiring cooks, young and old.
