Eight Essays on Uncertainty

What a treat and a surprise Eventually Everything Connects is as Sarah Firth has written the most thoughtful, readable book which can be and will be, referred to often. One reading is not enough to absorb her philosophy and deep thinking.

To share her philosophy, Sarah has chosen to use the medium of a Graphic Novel. It works superbly. The text is minimal and is supported by illustrations which convey so much more than the text alone. Her language is evocative and supports the concepts beautifully.

There are eight essays in this book. They deal with such topics as “Joie de Vivre, Like a moth to a flame, What makes a me? and State of emergency.” The chapter on “Like a moth to a flame,” deals with the issue of mobile phone use. It shows how much information we can get so quickly. Information that will keep us ahead of all the rest.

Finding out about latest diets, sales on bras, and the housing crisis, keeps us ahead of the pack. On a camping trip, the Bogong Moth which flies into the flame of their campfire is compared to mobile phone abuse. The urge to keep that phone going is as strong as the urge for the moth to explore the flames. Perhaps Social media has become the equivalent of the campfire.

The essay on “Desire Lines,” follows the train of thought and deed of the author. As a young child she discovers a book, hidden in her family library. From her earliest glimpses of sex, she explores and experiments with her body in many ways. As she is aging, Sarah says “I want to keep moving through life…carving my own desire line…guided by curiosity… to more intimately know myself and others.”

Eventually Everything Connects is a brilliant way of sharing a message and creating a thought provoking, enjoyable experience.
