Jon Izzard takes the journeyman or woman, on a fresh new voyage into the age old art of Tarot, from both an informative perspective, as well as a twelve month course in learning the secrets, mysteries and wisdom to be found when the tarot is used to enhance, explore and discover your relationship both with yourself and the Universe.
Set out clearly and in comfortable language, Tarot: A Modern Guide is excellent for a beginner or simply anyone who is curious about Tarot, hat it really means and how it is used. The Tarot Deck of 78 cards is explained clearly, the bright colourful images taken from the traditional Marseilles pack, first published in Marseilles, France, in the early-sixteenth-century.
Over the many centuries the tarot has come to have a wide range of connotations; some good but with many steeped in mystery, the occult and arcane. In the first section of the book, each of the cards and their suits are explained well with their meaning, keywords, Sample Interpretations and their use ‘as a blockage card’, which is considered by many practitioners as controversial.
As this is a course in tarot, it is essential to be able to remember the various components of each of the cards before moving onto Tarot Wisdom, where exploring the previous learning is encouraged. But, it is also recommended to proceed with caution and follow the guidelines until confidence is established, as tarot does have a very deep aspect to it, which needs to be understood clearly.
Part Three is in essence the workbook for the months of the year. Izzard suggests that it is best to follow the order set down, but if you find it is getting a bit too stressful, take a break but make sure to resume at the correct time in the cycle.
Tarot: A Modern Guide is a comprehensive, easy to understand presentation of the age old art, or in some countries game, of tarot which even if you are not considering doing the workshop/course, makes very interesting reading.
