Unlocking the Science of Personal Growth
‘We’re living in an age obsessed with improvement, where everywhere you look someone’s offering a promise of a better version of yourself—slightly more refined, more regulated, more productive and more centred. We’re chasing a protein-eating, early-rising, boundary-holding, ice-bathing, breathworking, spiritually awakened, habit-stacked, insight-soaked version of ourselves that, apparently, should be thriving by now.’
The above quote comes from the book The Experiment Mindset from Tamsin Simounds and perfectly describes the lifestyle or societal expectation that has become the world in which we live. We are pushed, driven to succeed but when we don’t it is considered as failure.
Even when we do succeed we are encouraged to go higher, keep on accepting the next break, offer, step up the ladder because that is what we have decided is our life pathway; until we realise what we are doing and have done is making us chronically unhappy in all aspects of our life.
Tamsin Simounds found herself in such a dilemma with her life, work and a new baby to contend with; one who set its own rules. She realised there had to be a better way of achieving her personal goals and set out to discover, largely through experimentation, what it was and more importantly, what she really, deep down, wanted to do with the rest of her life from a work-based viewpoint, that made her happy.
This leap into the unknown has led her to a career working with people from all walks of life, encouraging them to look deeply into what they do want and how ‘unlock their personal growth’ desires, something we are not always encouraged to do!
She encourages us to treat our life as an experiment, She gives us the tools and understanding to feel the fear, do it anyway and learn to recognise the benefits of finally feeling free to make changes so long and deeply desired.
Entertaining, motivational, life changing and refreshing, The Experiment Mindset is a must read for those who feel ‘stuck’ in their career pathway, who are fearful of change, who need a guiding hand. It is also well worth the time and effort taken to read the book to understand the psychology behind why we find ourselves caught up in the relentless pursuit of modern lifestyles and expectations and why we are afraid, resistant or hesitant to change.
The Experimental Mindset is very highly recommended.
