Jebediah’s goldfish has died and he is feeling dreadfully sad. His Grandfather comes in to his room to say goodnight and asks what the problem is and in true Grandfather style sets out to comfort young Jebediah.
He tells the tale of a land called Lovenia where all the people live a gentle, happy and peaceful life by following the pages in a beautiful book called the Book of Love.
The Book of Love was the book which guided the townspeople for many, many years, with each and every one having their very own copy of this beautiful book. Every day the Book of Love magically recorded all the good deeds that happened in the town.
Life was very good for all the townspeople until one day someone used the fateful words “I hate you” with these words being recorded in the book.
Suddenly the townspeople started to change. They guarded their books of love and even locked them up so no-one else could see into their books.
The town became a sad and unhappy place until one day a young boy called Jebediah came to the town.
He was given his own copy of the Book of Love but because he was new to the town, wherever he went he carried his book wide open, not locked up tight like the other townspeople.
Gradually people began to hear about this boy and slowly began to open their books leaving them open longer and longer each time.
Joy and happiness slowly began to return to the land of Lovenia. The people had learned a valuable lesson about love and joy and did not want to lose it again due to foolishness.
They asked the Angel who guarded over the town what could be done and the Angel gently places the words of love into everyone’s hearts to be held there for all time.
This is a very gentle, loving story reminding all of us that by giving the gift of love to all around us the world can be a much better place with fears and hurts comforted, not just for young but for everyone.
Whether you are four and listening to the story or reading this to your grandchildren you will enjoy the gentleness within the story as it tells a truth we are all too often in danger of forgetting.
