With this latest creation from Hurtado he has managed to combine a range of rhythms, styles and melodies to deliver an album which is very different to his usual style, in that it encompasses a range of emotions, which when you realise it has been written to recreate early influences, is not so surprising.
Commencing with his trademark Peruvian upbeat tempo he then moves across the pages of life using a blend of electric guitar, lyrics, vocal harmonisation and a dash or two of violin. There is even a little side journey into India in ‘Dulce” and ‘Flor de Aleii’.
Based on his life challenging and changing experience, when he took the traditional ‘ayahuasca ceremony’, as a young man. This is derived from the traditional Peruvian medicinal potion to alleviate ‘mal de mojo’ or melancholia, he believed he was given the gift of creating music; a pathway he chooses to follow.
He has dedicated this album to the memory of friend and poet, Dr Toni Yancey, with whom he collaborated on several different projects over previous years and has by putting her poetry, together with his music in the tracks “Feliz’, “Two Young Too Soon’ and “Physician Poet’, simply added to the beauty and significance of the music.
As this is a slightly different mix for Hurtado, it underlines the talent this man possesses and uses on his chosen journey. He seamlessly combines emotion, poetry, varying influences of music and reflections of his life, to deliver a journey for all to take as you relax into a musical re-creation of the “ayahuasca ceremony’, Hurtado style.
Lovely, relaxing and totally enjoyable, you will emerge refreshed and revitalised.
