Friendship can be such a powerful bond, that often differences are never noticed. This is how it is with Lenny the rabbit and George the bear. They play happily and are companiable on swings, skateboards and in playgrounds. There are never arguments or misunderstandings.

Then one day Lenny begins to wonder what it would be like to be alone. He asks George, who can’t see why you would bother when you are so happy together. But Lenny wants to find out what being alone feels like. He tells George that he is going off alone. At first Lenny finds plenty to do, but as time passes, he begins to feel lonely.

How will George feel, having been left, how will Lenny make contact again, perhaps George enjoyed his alone time? These are all issues to be considered as Lenny begins to discover the essence of friendship.

George and Lenny Are Always Together is  a good story to use to talk about friendship and the boundaries that one may set. Many aspects of friendship may not occur to young children, but this story highlights individual need and responsibilities towards a friend.
