As the title suggests, this book shows the Royal William, Kate and Baby George welcoming their new son and brother, pre-empting the real event.  Although the story could be about any young family bringing home a new baby, it is quite representative of a Royal Family.

This picture book is very colourful and adding to the interest is the similarity of the drawings to the real characters.  The illustrations are bold and clear, with tiny detailed pictures on many pages.  The text is well thought-out, making it easy to read aloud.  The print is clear, mostly on a white background, and broken up into small pieces in many places.  The combination of text and illustrations add to the humour.  When George and the baby blow raspberries, we are shown a good deal of spit and dribble.

This story applies to any family welcoming a new baby.  George is worried that the new baby may “dribble on his favourite toy,” or try to “snatch his jam sandwich.” His parents are sensitive to the boy’s feelings when he looks glum and an appropriate gift is found to appease George.  However, as with most new situations, time and love and patience, make it a relaxed and fun transition.

This is a vibrant, bright, realistically drawn book.  It would be superb to read aloud to a class or a cuddler on the lap.  Many readings will reveal new pictures to look at and enjoy.  This is an ideal story for a new big brother or sister.
