When Peter Clancy reluctantly returns to his home town of Clarkes Flats upon his Mothers death, he does so filled with dread and the genuine desire to only stay as short a time as possible.

Little does Clancy know that by returning to a place he has hated for many years he will stir up the past so thoroughly, he will put both his life and that of  old friends in jeopardy as secrets are discovered and wrongs that need to be put right before the past can once again become the past.

Home Country is a masterful portrait of life not necessarily as we know it but as others do, with a gripping storyline making this hard to put down and very definitely earning a place in the genre of murder mystery writing.

Peter Clancy enjoys his work with the tabloid press Melbourne Truth, a newspaper that focuses on the underside of life in Melbourne along with page 3 girls and other unsavoury stories. He finds he enjoys the seamier side of life along with the hard drinking and dysfunctional lifestyle.

Trouble is that Peter finds himself as the star character in a story far more deadly than anything he has ever reported on in his years as a journo.

Is he able to stay the course and find out what secrets not only the town of Clarke’s Flats are hiding but the truth about his family? Can he do this and still remain alive?

TW Lawless has created characters that are larger than life in some respects but also remind you of people you have known. He has portrayed the absolute deviousness that can pass for life in a small country town remote from much of the influence of city style living. He builds a picture of one man’s desire to control the ebb and flow of life at Clarke’s Flats and is none to particular about how he goes about it.
