If you love a good aeroplane read, that keeps on at a cracking pace; read on. The Chamber is Howard Gordon’s second offering and is sure to delight fans of the TV series “24” on which he is an executive producer. This fact is not lost on the reader as you can easily visualise this book as a TV series.

Following on from the successful Obelisk we again join Gideon Davis, who after the fall out of the Obelisk oil rig is looking at being an “ordinary” citizen for once, settling down into a teaching job at the local university and marrying his lovely and intelligent fiancé, Kate.

However Gideon is thrown into a revenge plot that needs his special skills. While evidence is hard to come by and people to trust even more difficult Gideon is not to be put off if it means protecting the United States of America; he is after all a patriot. Join Gideon and his brother Tillman as they piece together the puzzle in uncovering a plot to overthrow the government and American democracy.

The “beat the clock” plot is a sure fire winner for Gordon and his readers. While character development and plots are a little light on, this is an excellent armchair adrenalin rush which is hard to put down. As you move from location to location, character to character, slotting the pieces of the puzzle together ready for the dramatic conclusion you cannot help but be drawn into this thriller.

So settle back enjoy the ride: it is good versus evil, honest men and women trying to do their jobs despite the bureaucracy and just enough factual aspects of America’s secret service(s) and associated weaponry to make it feel authentic.
