For lovers of Egyptology and fast paced adventure stories, this book is very rewarding. Dr Cole shows an enormous depth of knowledge and understanding of historical times, and has created an entertaining and educational read.

His characters are credible and likeable. There is Dr Joanne Phillips, archaeologist and lecturer in Egyptology, her estranged husband and friend Dr Alan Andrews, an honours student of Joanne’s, Sofia, and Charles Reece who enters the story later in Wales.

Sofia begins this adventure with a hypothesis that is so plausible that Joanne is able to attract funding from her university to commence an archaeology survey in Egypt. Alan decides to join them as his interest is in “Singing stones”.

Although this is a work of fiction there are many unusual facts that the story is built around. Moving from Egypt to Stonehenge in England was surprising, but apparently an Egyptian corpse was dug up near Stonehenge. The detailed deciphering of the hieroglyphics is interesting, and the diagrams very helpful.

Set in modern day times, there are flashbacks to the past to clarify and explain rituals and practices. Modern day unscrupulous people have made similar conclusions to the Aussie team, and wish to use the knowledge that the Egyptians discovered for their own evil plans. Danger and confrontation are to be expected when their paths cross.

Despite the fast pace and amazing revelations that are discovered, romance blossoms, and the quartet become so adept at following their goal that other adventures are sure to follow.
