If nothing else this is a true biography all about ME, Geoffrey Edelsten. There is no doubt Professor Geoffrey Edelsten (MD de-registered) is an over achiever: a man who could see change where it needed to be changed and made a judgement call, several as you will discover, or took the gamble if you like, stepping up to the plate to help make that change.

But out of all the notoriety, the flamboyance, the playboy image and the fast cars there is one thing that comes through over and over again as you read your way through this almost Ho Hum rendition of a life well lived and played, is the man has lived well, loved well and often paid the price for his choice of lifestyle. Rightly or wrongly. Take nothing away from the fact Edelsten worked incredibly hard and in doing so changed the face of patient care in Australia to bring in 24 hour clinics, revolutionised the way patient care is carried out in Doctors surgery’s today, introduced a fresh view of patient treatment and saw the massive benefits in a revolutionary pathology sampling process which paved the way to the sophisticated systems which we all take for granted in 2012.

But on the way up he made enemies, raising the ire and jealousies of many. His love of music led him to rub shoulders with the underworld of corruption in Sydney, with his fast paced lifestyle and “flash” surgery, eventually leading to his being gaoled for 12 months for supposedly bribing a hit man.

From owner of the Sydney Swans to common criminal, from Millionaire to broke, Edelsten certainly has sampled the highs and lows of life, but does reiterate over and over again that hard work, and yet more hard work, is the key to being able to return several times over to the lifestyle he so truly enjoys: that of a very, very wealthy man surrounded by very, very glamorous people.

He talks of his marriage to first wife Leanne and his very high profile second marriage to Brynne Edelstein, saying this is his side of the story: that he is correcting some of the misinformation created about him but in the process he leads you to wonder.

I am not so sure about Enigma but perhaps the rise and fall and rise and …………..of Geoffrey Edelsten would be more accurate. You could say it is and has been truly that!
