A Lifetime Fighting for Love, Fairness, Equity, and Women’s Right To Lead
Born into Apartheid South Africa, Avril Henry pushed back against what she deemed as a totally unacceptable standard of life and living.
Winning a scholarship to Capetown University, it was not long before she became an activist against the ruling regime, was placed on the Police watch list, met and engaged in a liaison with a man of mixed race and by the age of 22 years, was moving to Australia with her suitcase and five hundred dollars.
From being told to sit down, shut up and don’t get involved, she went on to carve out a career that empowered so many people, many of whom are now Industry Leaders, hold powerful positions and amongst the many other areas in which she empowered change, she paved the way to equality within the workplace.
Despite having a personal life that was less than wonderful, she was never one to let an opportunity to make positive change pass. She researched, advocated, directed and empowered change, refusing to accept that women and marginalised people could not lead, or rise to corporate levels once considered the privilege of men only.
She went from being considered a radical thinker to a trusted business consultant across a wide range of industries, advocating for change, feted and in demand for her forward, clear and clinical thinking.
Not All Diamonds are Worn is her memoir, the stories are those of her life, they resonate, they show the challenge, the determination and in many instances the bravery of taking on the status quo to achieve a better, fairer, more equitable world for women, for men, for the marginalised, creating a legacy that will last long into the future.
Named a Member of the Order of Australia and one of 2025’s Global Women of Influence, Avril Henry walks tall as a woman who inspires, leads with persuasion and refuses to accept that there is only one way, one viewpoint to be accepted.
