Delia Ephron has offered us a raw and deeply personal look into some of the many deciding moments that have gone into making up the person she now knows as Delia Ephron, person, not Delia Ephron someone or others sister, daughter, lover, friend.

Funny, often irreverent, reflective, cathartic and so much more this is a superb, frank and witty look at modern life and all the travails that come with it, written by an expert in the genre of words and nuance!

Until I read this book, I must confess I had never heard of the Ephron family, but when it was pointed out they have a number of great screen credits to their family, the mild Ah, So that is who they are, seen that movie, heard about that play, moment arrived!

After reading the book I now know them far better; far better than perhaps one should know any family, but also with a considerable amount of understanding regarding the intricacies that go to make up the many facets of family, even the most talented of families.

Delia Ephron has offered us a raw and deeply personal look into some of the many deciding moments that have gone into making up the person she now knows as Delia Ephron, person, not Delia Ephron someone or others sister, daughter, lover, friend.

She has offered some of the most emotional times of her life in order to share, and by doing so has allowed us to take a look at our own lives in order to have some understanding of our own issues we still struggle to make sense of or come to terms with, such as growing up with alcoholic parents, the death of a beloved sister, a failed marriage, the unconditional love of her dog Honey, and all the dogs gone before.

From the first page her style is casual, reflective and entertaining: it reflects the person she has become over many years and the pathway she has walked.

Each chapter is an essay detailing an aspect of her life she is reflecting on, delivered in her wry, slightly off-beat style delivered as pure entertainment, warts and all, wrapped around one of life’s many lessons, learned, pondered upon and in the end spat out!

Funny, often irreverent, reflective, cathartic and so much more this is a superb, frank and witty look at modern life and all the travails that come with it, written by an expert in the genre of words and nuance!
