Kirstin and her husband gave themselves a year to transform 500, badly neglected, acres in the corner of upstate New York into an organic community farm with the aim to eat only what they could grow, harvest, slaughter and preserve and in turn share this with a community via a CSA farming model. It truly is a different way to live and the exciting component is they achieve their dreams and are now successfully running their farm with the never ending busyness, heart ache and endless joy that life on a farm brings.

Such a personal journey yet shared so openly and honestly that at times you are desperately cheering from the sidelines for Kirstin and her husband to prevail over Mother Nature and live the life they had always envisaged. It is a true reflection of the sheer self believe and determination which people are capable of achieving.

The book is entertaining at the beginning and then the ongoing monotonous hard work just kicks in and there is no letup; such is the farmer’s life! But it  does make for an interesting read!
