Karen Hodges has recently released her work Koliptus – a kola’s tale based on the true facts associated with the steady decline of koala’s in their native habitiat.

Hodges was born in Mossman, Northern Queensland and grew up in Brisbane. She has spent 30 years working in the Tweed Valley, where the story is set, and lives on a property on top of the mountain at North Tumblegum. Hodges became actively involved with koala’s in the early ’90’s in teh Tweed heads district after the area was developed for hos=using and the local koala population had become fragmented and displaced. She was activley involved in their rescue and replacement.

The huge crown fire in the Hunter Valey in the early ’90’s caused a lot of injury to the koalas. Hodges assited with their care and witnessed first hand the tragedy which forms the inspiration behind this bbok.

She now has a residential family of kookaburra’s living on her property and they too have become characters in her book.

The story has been written with the intent of educating children about the needs and habitat of native wildlife.
